Johnsburg, Illinois is a beautiful picturesque town in the far north east section of McHenry County. Founded in the late 1800's by three men; Nicholas Frett, Nicholas Adams, and Jacob Schmitt, who bought land and raised their families and cattle in this bountiful area and writing home to Germany to encourage family members to join them as many did, building houses and raising families that are still in this area today. Johnsburg's oldest standing building sits on the northwest corner of Johnsburg Road and St. Johns Ave and was built in 1857 according to the stonework on the front of the building. St. Johns Church is the oldest standing church in Johnsburg, and actually burnt to the ground twice before being rebuilt.
