History of Ingleside, IL 60041

Ingleside is located on Squaw Creek ( Also known as Indian River ) split between Long Lake, Duck Lake, and also Fox Lake.

Ingleside is situated below the Long Lake Dam and at the top of Fox Lake. Duck lake and most of the Long Lake area are sections of Ingleside town. Ingleside also goes north to Lake Villa, IL. 60046

Ingleside has current up to date train station, The Ingleside, IL Post Office. The Old Grant Township Hall (houses Grant Township Museum), The Long Lake Dam, Fox Lake bike trail, Dog-n-Suds, and Dry Dock Laundromat. Dog-n-Suds is a 50's-style drive-up has intercoms for ordering and car-hops to bring you your food. They sponsor a weekly classic car night and are open Tuesday-Sunday seasonally.

In 2008 The Long Lake Dam was reconstructed and updated. The dam was built in 1930 and updated in 1968 and 2008. The Long Lake Dam controls water flow from Long Lake to Fox Lake. Also the dam allows boat travel from Long Lake, IL to the rest of the Chain of Lakes.

In 1960 mammoth bones were discovered here. They are an attraction at the Lakes Region Historical Society Museum located in Antioch, Illinois 60002.
